I kinda like when music makes me squirm with the message contained in the lyrics. By this I mean, something in the music makes me examine myself from a different angle. The latest in a long line of thinking songs (for lack of a better term) for me is "Maybe, This Time" by Ok Go.
Having spent your entire life
Exactly where you are tonight
In the valley between intent and deed
You must have mastered this
The fragile art of a good excuse
And the little things that get you to believe
that get you to believe
So listen I'm not trying to prove anything at all here
But don't you think that maybe this time you were wrong?
You've spent your entire life
Quick-tongued and always right
Hasn't being right just let you down (right just let you down)
So listen I'm not trying to say anything at all here
There isn't much left anyway that hasn't been said
But don't you think that possibly this time its different
Don't you think that maybe this time you were wrong?
This song, "Everlasting Everything" by Wilco has been a good reminder of what a blessing my marriage is.
Other honorable mentions over my lifetime of songs that have made me do a bit of soul searching include the following:
- Everyday by Orchestral Manuvers in the Dark
- Matter of Trust by Billy Joel
- Last Dance by The Cure
- I Am the Cosmos by This Mortal Coil
- Tear in your Hand by Tori Amos
- Trust by The Cure
- Not My Slave by Oingo Boingo

Was the Ok Go song the one you were telling me about the other day?
BTW-like the muse pic.
Who knows?
I talk about music so much...
No, I remember now. It's "Are You a Hypnotist?" by The Flaming Lips
I've listened to Tear In Your Hand over and over and over again...
